Chase Scenes

This is a few clips of chase scenes which we think we can take inspiration from

This a scene from the Matrix this is a similar chase to what we want to achieve it is also quite short

The Italian Job, i like this chase because it doesn't feature the typical music you would associate with a fast high speed chase scene.

Film openings

The purpose of this task was to look at different beginnings of different films.
The first was matrix reloaded

The genre of the film is clear form the beginning you can tell because it goes straight into a car chase on the public streets, this adds realism because it is on the streets. The shots cut between in the car to in a office which is dark and high tec computers.

The start of films are genrally used to tell the audience, what the film is about and what problems there are in the future. The editing is ued to create speed during the chase to make sure the audience understand the film.

How to Achieve A Good Opening

The Bourne Ultimatum achieves all of these

- Set the scene
- Make the genre of the film obvious
- Show the main character
- Background Information
- Purpose of the film
- Get the audience gripped
- Credits
- Shots that fit the genre
- Titles

James Bond Quantum Of Solace

This is the trailer to James Bond QUANTUM OF SOLACE this is a simular film to ours.

Film treatment (full) idea 1

We will film the start of the film with a lot of action, we will do this because it will draw in the audience with lots of short sharp shots and with music that fits into the film which we will find when all the filming is finished, they will also want to know what is going to happen after.
After the very quick start, we start to learn more about the past of both of the two characters and what they have done in the past and the problems they have had and what they have done to overcome them and how each affects them now e.g. one may have a problem like wife leaves him for another man and this makes him a very frustrated person and unable to trust anyone. We then learn the plot of what is happening, we learn who they are looking for and why (prime minister has been kidnapped and is being held.) The "bad guys" want £5,000,000 and for everyday that they don't get it, they order a terror attack to happen around the country and if they don't get anything in 30 days they say they will kill the prime minister. After three days they bomb Buckingham palace, House of commons and Heathrow airport and they agree to meet with the money and track him to the warehouse that they are keeping him, they bust trying to save the prime minister before another day comes. They under estimate how many men they have in the warehouse and mange to get the prime minister to a new secret location and they punish them by setting out to destroy everything.
At the end they manage to save the prime minister and kill the leader of the "bad guys" just before the country is about to go into absolute chaos, after millions of pounds is lost in damages and the two main people that were mentioned at the start were considered heroes and the saviours of England

Possible location

This is a location of a warehouse

Possible location of woods

This is a possible location for the chase scene

Film Treatment Idea 1

Opening 2 minutes:
The genre we are using is action, we have chosen this because it is our favourite genre and our favourite films also action including James Bond, and The Bourne Triology. Action is also more exciting to watch and film therefore we feel it would be the best genre to follow.

Our opening shot is a low angle shot of our two characters running through a woods (Ashtead common). We will use a variety of shots which will be short, fast and dramatic. We are doing this to create an atmosphere of speed and intensity. This scene will be a chase scene - we want to go straight into the action to get the audience gripped from the beginning. The person chasing will eventually lose the person trying to escape, the person escaping will then rest up against a tree whilst the chaser is still alert and trying to find him. Eventually the chaser discovers the victim and grabs him from behind a tree whilst pulling his gun out on him. We will use a sound bridge to jump from the woods into a warehouse where the victim will then be interrogated. The chasers secretarys mobile phone then rings with a message saying 'he definitely knows where he is'. The chasers will now turn to the victim shouting agressively 'last chance, where is he?'. The victim previously had taken poison in the woods, when he knew he was going to be captured and interogated; the poison proves to be fatal. The last and final shot is of the dieing victim as his head falls to one side, with a trickle of blood running down from the corner of his mouth.

-The location we have chosen is Ashtead Common - this is because it is a local area, and easy to acess for filming purposes. Their will be an established shot of the warehouse, before we cut inside the building. The set inside the warehouse wont actually be inside a real abonded warehouse, only in a set made to look like it.
- The clothing worn by the victim and the chaser will be casual. This helps them blend into the public before the chase begins.
- The boss and his secretary will be in formal clothing, such as a suit. This gives them a powerfull look, along with high status on society.
- The first prop will be a gun; used to show that the chaser is the person with control and power. The mobile phone will be on speaker phone so that the message can be heard clearly (both audience and actors)

Final Decison

Our final decision is MGM because it is one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience. We have chosen MGM because it is one of the shortlist and world Renowned production companys for doing films like Casino Royale.

Film Institutions

The type of film institution we would like to use we think that universal or 20th Century Fox we think that they would be perfect because they have both created movies similal to ours, e.g. James Bond and the Bourne trilogy.

My Evaluation

For our preliminary task we had to film a conversation we also had to use a reverse shot. We had to use different shots and show that we could use the cameras and equipment. We used lighting, camera angles and sound to create and eerie scene. The start of the scene is Lewis walking down the corridor eerie music plays in the background all through the scene however there is unwanted sound in the background, he turns to walk out the door and the clip changes we then see him meeting Alex in the center of the scene the camera is behind a tree so it looks like someone is watching them. We then have a medium shot of there conversation and the music fades out. We dont see Lewis' face all through our film again to add to the mystery of the film. They then walk away and the clip changes to see Lewis walking to a door the clip changes again so its tight and works well. We have used quick shots and made the editing quick and flow. Lewis then pushes the door open which we edited so we had good continuity editing. Amy is standing there on her phone ignoring the fact that Lewis is there until he walks past then she looks at him as he walks past like he is suspicious . We then see Lewis walking up the stairs from above so it looks like a CCTV camera. After he has passed the stairs the clip changes and we see Lewis walking to a room and see his body avoiding his head to keep his identity secret. Then we see Lewis' feet in different shots which is more continuity editing lewis then reaches for the door we just see his hand do this. The clip finishes with the music stopping as the door shuts. Overall i think we have used a good variety of camera shots and angles, the music creates a mysterious/Suspicious theme. Lewis is our main character with Alex and Amy as background characters.

Preliminary Task- Class Evaluation and What we have learnt

This is what the class had to say
-Continuity was good (the editing)
-Shoot double footage so have more to work with
-Sound problems- Inconsistent sound, fading music in and out difficult
-Good variety of camera shots
-Think about actors
-Costume and make up
-Well editied

We have learned that the easiest thing for us is the filming, we were good at using the camera and held the camera steady, we also set up all the shoots well. The thing that we found hard to do was the uploading, but the editing was good!

Preliminary Task- The Question

Practice Task- Football

Tuesday, 10 November 2009

This was are first attempt at filming and editing a small piece of footage. The point of this was to get used to the editing software and the video camera. Overall we were pleased with the finished film and have learned how to use the equipment.
