Media Diary

Today we have been looking into the sound to go with our final piece E.G. the sound effect of a gun shot and the music to go with the final piece.

Music Research

We need to find a piece of music that will fit in to our final film, it will need to create tension and suite the film. We are not allowed to use a copy right piece so we will have to get a non copy right piece or make our own. No one in our group has experience of making music so we will have to find some. Action films like The Dark Knight has a car chase scene and the music to suite the atmosphere of the chase.

For our preliminary task we used a website called free play music but we have been unable to find a piece to suite our final film. We are also adding a gun shot as a sound effect at the end of the film.

Questionnaire

We are producing a questionnaire, we are doing this so that we can find out what our target audience Would expect to find and see in a action film such as James Bond. If we can find out what our audience want to see then we can produce better opening. We will want to find out what is important to the audience and what they might not want to see.

Media Diary

Today I have written about our final decision for our script choice. We have also started writing a questionnaire to ask our target audience about the genre. The purpose of this is to find out what the audience like and dont like about action films also what they would expect to see. I have also uploaded some location pictures.

Location Images-possible shots

These are a few possible shots we might use

We want to use this shot to show what the character is seeing

We want to use this shot to show the changing between the woods and the lake

Location Images

These are pictures of our opening shot

Location Images

These are the paths me and lewis will run through during our chase

Location Images

These are pictures of the lake where i might stand when throwing the ruck sack

Location Images

A couple of pictures of the lake, that I will be throwing the rucksack into

Final Decision

We have chosen to use script number 3. We prefer this script to our other scripts because it gives a clear message to the audience about what happens in our film, it also adds mystery and tension to the film.

Possible script 3

This is a possible conversation during the chase scene.

Lewis: Hello, I'am after him
Voice over: Ok I'll be there in 5, remember we need him alive
Lewis: I'll try!

This is a possible conversation at the end

Sound effect gun shot
Sound effect phone rings
Lewis: Hello?
Voiceover: Got him?
Lewis: He was a dead end
Voiceover: We still neeed him, he has infomation
Lewis: Not anymore

Media Diary

Today I have come up with some ideas for our opening credits, looked at other opening credits and got some filming tips

Filming tips

1. Keep camera as steady as possible, When using hand held camera try to lean against to keep camera steady because a shaky camera can be very distracting for the audience

2. Avoid zooming in and out, simply move closer or further away from the object or scene because the film can become out of focus

3. Compose picture frame, make sure everything is in it that should be and make sure nothing that shouldn't be in it isn't in it.

Ideas for opening credits 3

We want all the credits to appear on a black screen after all the filming, this would mean we can go straight into the action. After the tilte has come on we want the Directors name and actors names to come on next, we would also like a voice over whilst the credits are on

Image of credits

This is from the film pirates of the caribbean dead mans chest-opening credits
This is similar to our idea 2 and 3

Ideas for opening credits 2

For our second idea we want to open with a black screen with the directors name, we will then go into the action and play all the way though to the very end, we then go onto another black screen with the names of actors

Image of credits

This is from the film Running Scared (1986)- Opening credits
This film put the opening credits over the action of the film like our idea 1

Ideas for opening credits 1

Our first idea is to open with on a black screen with the directors name, we will then go into the action and freeze on a certain character whilst there name appears and then play after there name has gone. I think this willl be different to others and if we use a good font and colour it will be easy to read.

Ideas for opening credits

We need to think of ideas about how our titles can work. We will need to introduce The Director, Actors names and The Producer. I have looked at other films opening credits, I think that ours need to be clear and easy to read.

Inspirational opening credits

James Bond Casino Royale
I like the opening credits in this film because the background is made up of a deck of cards which relates to the casino element.

Inspirational opening credits

Pink Panther
Although this is in cartoon, not real life i like the way the credits are part of the opening

Final choice

We have decided to choice idea 2 to use as our final film. We have chosen idea 2 because we feel that it will be more effective, we also have more ideas to put in idea 2. The more ideas the better because we can cut the ones we may not like.

Possible problems when filming

There are problems that can make filming difficult
- The weather
- Time of day

Media Diary

Today we drew up a storyboard of all the shots we want to use and the order in which they will appear

Possible Scrip 2

This is our 2nd possible script for our final piece

Voice on phone: Have you got him
Lewis: Yes i got him
Voice: Good bring him in
Lewis: Dead or alive

Target Audience

Music ideas for our final film

We all think that the music we choose for our final piece needs to create intensity because the majority of our film is a chase scene so to add to the tension the music has to be perfect. I like the music from The Italian Job because it is very different from what you would expect to hear. However for our film i think that fast paced music will be best.

Inspirational chase scenes

James Bond have had many great chase scenes from the first films to the latest, Die Another Day had a great chase scene on ice

The Action Genre

Action movies are a film genre where in the story is largely told through action instead of dialogue. The action tends to involve individual efforts on the part of the hero. While action tends to be in most films, the "Action film" as a genre of its own began to develop in the 1970s. The genre is closely linked with the thriller and adventure film genres. The Bond films were characterised with quick cutting car chases, fights.

Opening Sequence

Terminator 2
The film started with an establishing shot of a busy motorway, it then cut to a close up of people walking along the motorway to show normal life. There is non-diegtic music to build tension throughout the start of the film. The 2 production company's names enter on centre of scene on top of the action in bold font also the directors name. There is a medium shot of a girl on a swing the cameras movement follows the girl swinging. The non-diegetic music built up to a Crescendo, all the colours became white and it becomes slow motion. The girls laughter started to echo to create a felling of uncertainty. It then goes to silence, the next shot is of a car shell, the scene is now all black instead of white this is unsettling for the viewer. the camera then tracks up to show a view of the motorway, which was scene in the first hot. It then fades into playground where was swinging. The narrator tells us the viewer what has happened. The next shot is of a skull being trodden this is teamed with loud music to make the audience jump. The camera looks up and the fight scene starts, the camera tracks the characters

- We see me chuck my bag into a bush, we see the bag thown over the camera
- We then have a close-up of the bag, until we see lewis run past.
- We then have an establishing shot of the lake and see me on the other side, on his own.
- Then we have a shot where i turn clockwise whilst the camera turns anti-clockwise circling me.
- we then have a piont of view shot of lewis in the bushes watching me

- he turns around and there is a small convosation.

Media Diary

Our group has decided to do a diary each so that we can keep track of what each of us have done. Doing this will help me with time management and ensuring that i know what i have to do and when

Media Diary

4th december
Need to write about
- Our target audience
- The action genre (conventions of the genre)
- Character profiles (characters in ours and professional films)
- Possible costumes
- Analysis more film openings

Self Assessment

I think that so far I'm a low level 3, i think this because i include most of the following:
- There is proficient research into similar products and a personal target audience
- There is proficient organisation of actors, location, costumes or props
- There is proficient work on shortlist, layouts, drafting, scripting or storyboarding
- Time management is good
- There is a good level of care in the presentation of the research and planning
My research has been aimed at the action genre and i have viewed films like the Matrix, Italian job and quantum of solace. So far i havent done any character profiles, but will do soon. We have looked at many locationsto stage our chase scene

Tuesday, 1 December 2009

Order Of scenes

- Black screen
- I'm running lewis following threw woods
- I run down into woods
- Lewis follows
- After a while we have a little scrap
- I then throw the bag into bushes
- Lewis catches me and takes me back to van
- Ties me up
- Finishes looking into van a black screen when van doors shut

Film Treatment Idea 2

Opening 2 minutes:
The genre we are using is action, we have chosen this because it is our favourite genre and our favourite films also action including James Bond, and The Bourne Triology. Action is also more exciting to watch and film therefore we feel it would be the best genre to follow.
Our opening shot is a low angle shot of our two characters running through a woods (oxshott common). Once i see I am being chased i throw my ruck sack away to stop the infomation being caught, but i still have a piece of paper with other infomation on it. We will use a vide variety of shots which will be used to create drama. This scene will be a chase scene - we want to, unlike the first idea give the two characters a vague introduction into the film. We will then go straight into our action scene. The person being chased will eventually lose the person trying to catch them the person being chased will stop by a lake, then I will throw the paper into the lake i hear a click behind me I turn around to see lewis standing there with a gun to my face. We may have a small convosation about lewis wanting me to tell him the infomation but i refuse to tell and get shot. It will then go to a black screen, we then hear the gun shot as i get shot.

- The location we have chosen is oxshott Common - this is because it is a local area, and easy to acess for filming purposes.
- The clothing worn by the victim and the chaser will be casual. This helps them blend into the public before the chase begins.
- The first prop will be a gun; used to show that the chaser is the person with control and power. The mobile phone headset piece will be on speaker phone so that the message can be heard clearly (both audience and actors)

possible location

This is oxshott woods and the film set for our final production
